Deep sea triptych
A three-part composition exploring the mystery and depth of the ocean through layered textures, atmospheric color, and immersive, narrative-driven imagery.
illustration/screenprinting - 2025
This project was one I did recently to practice getting detail to come through on screen prints. The idea for the illustration came from my love for screen printing and my research into H.P Lovecraft and his monster Cthulu. Thinking this could make a unique narrative triptych, I decided to charge it! The screen print turned out great, and after this I decided to elevate this project and display the illustrations as a digital illustrative piece as well.
Inspired by the bold, shadow-driven style of Mike Mignola, this piece draws on my long-standing fascination with sea monster lore and the unknown depths of the ocean. Mignola’s use of heavy contrast and simplified forms helped shape the visual language, allowing the triptych to feel both graphic and atmospheric, while the subject matter taps into that childhood sense of wonder and unease. Where massive, unseen creatures might be lurking just beyond the light.
